Zero day attack
A Zero Day Attack is a vulnerability in the software that is still unknown to the manufacturer of this application.
What are the risks of a Zero Day Attack?
The reason why this is called Zero day has to do with the fact that no one is yet aware of the security hole, especially the developers of the application. Due to this hole in network security unknown to the manufacturer, a hacker can take advantage of this hole. As soon as hackers have free rein on a network, the risks are high, such as malware, viruses, trojans, access to all data and more.
How can you protect yourself against a Zero Day Attack?
- Through the use of a Next Generation Firewall
- Make employees aware of the importance of timely updating applications (including browsers);
- Preventive action such as installing policies, but also ensuring that these policies match the organization and specific application use;
- Keep Anti-Virus up to date;
- Patching vulnerabilities within systems;
- Real-time protection: Make sure there is a good Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) that offers in-depth security;
- Implement a clear incident plan: A well-organized plan for what to do in the event of an incident, with well-defined roles for each employee involved and a clear procedure including prioritizing mission-critical activities.;
- Prevention of spread: An organization can do this by limiting the connections to the needs that the organization has.
